Mrs. Flores' Hidden Identities

Chapter 1 The Wedding Night

"The president of Flores Group, Elliot Flores, and the popular young actress Shania Horne were seen entering a hotel, sparking rumors of a romance." This late-night news quickly dominated the trending topics on Twitter.

Inside a suburban villa, Jessie Whitney looked at the two marriage certificates on the table, her lips curling with a hint of irony.

Today was the day she and Elliot registered for marriage. However, her husband was with another woman on their wedding night. How ridiculous!

Her phone rang at this moment, and a picture of Elliot getting water in a hotel room appeared.

[Jessie, even if you marry Elliot, you are still completely defeated.] The text was sent by Shania and was full of mockery.

Jessie closed her eyes and casually threw her phone aside, feeling a touch of bitterness in her heart.

Everyone thought she only married Elliot to repay his kindness, but they didn't know that she already had a crush on him back in college.

Elliot strongly opposed this marriage, but he had to compromise under pressure from his grandpa.

So this was how the current situation came about.

Elliot did not show up for the next three days. In the afternoon, Jessie had just finished a surgery when she received a call from Elliot.

"It's Grandpa's birthday banquet tonight. I will pick you up in the evening." Before Jessie could even respond, he hung up the phone directly. It was obvious that Elliot greatly despised her.

Jessie smirked with a hint of sarcasm as she thought inwardly, 'If it weren't for his grandpa Mario Flores, he probably wouldn't even be able to muster a perfunctory response.'

After work, Jessie returned home. After taking a shower, she chose a low-key yet luxurious light blue dress. Just as she had taken off her bathrobe, the door to the room was pushed open.

It was Elliot. He was wearing a black suit, and his handsome face seemed to have been meticulously carved by God, perfect and flawless.

His gaze briefly swept across Jessie's chest before he quickly looked away.

"Mr. Flores, you don't even knock before entering the room?" Even though Elliot was her husband, Jessie still felt a bit embarrassed. She quickly wrapped the towel around herself, her face turning as red as a ripe apple.

Elliot mocked, "Do I have to knock on the door to enter my own room? You're really calculated, Jessie Whitney. Even if you stripped naked in front of me, I wouldn't feel anything for you. "

'Calculated? Elliot thought I deliberately tried to seduce him?' Jessie only felt it ridiculous, asking, "So I am such a person to you?"

"Are you not?" Initially, Elliot didn't think that Jessie had any ulterior motives. However, such a simple and harmless woman actually convinced his grandpa he had to marry her.

From that moment on, he had an indescribable sense of disgust toward her.

He hated the feeling of being controlled by others.

"Believe what you want." Jessie didn't bother to explain further. She just changed her clothes, put on some lipstick, and got into the car with Elliot.

Today was Mario's 80th birthday celebration. He invited all the high society celebrities.

People in the business world basically all knew that Elliot got married a few days ago.

Regarding the recent rumors about Elliot, it was widely assumed that his rumored wife would likely be Shania Horne, the daughter of the Horne family, given the long-standing relationship between the Flores and Horne families.

As a result, everyone was stunned when Jessie and Elliot got out of the car together.

Jessie had flawless skin and delicate features without a trace of makeup. The light blue dress seemed to be tailored for her.

Her every move seemed like that of a heavenly fairy, so stunningly beautiful that she took the onlooker's breath away. When she stood next to Elliot, they appeared to be a perfectly matched couple.

"Whose daughter is this? She's so beautiful," said one guest.

"Wow, she looks really unfamiliar. I've never seen her before," added another one.

"That dress she's wearing must be the latest style from Karen. Who is this girl?" a third one chimed in.

"I think I've seen her before... Oh, I remember now, she's the doctor from Hulio Hospital! I met her a few days ago for a check-up."

'The Flores family's new bride is actually a doctor?' the onsite guests couldn't help wondering.

Chapter 2 The Fake Painting

Hearing the people around gossiping, Elliot's mother, Kelly, was getting somewhat displeased as she welcomed the guests at the gate.

Elliot's younger sister, Linda, disdainfully said, "I don't know what Grandpa was thinking. There are so many wealthy heiresses pursuing my brother, yet he insists on Elliot marrying this shameful orphan."

As Jessie and Elliot approached, Kelly immediately pulled Jessie aside and warned in a stern tone, "Pay attention to your every move. Don't embarrass the Flores family at the banquet."

Jessie's eyes flickered slightly as she replied softly, "I see, Kelly."

Elliot listened to the conversation of the two nearby without giving any reaction.

At that moment, Linda exclaimed in surprise, "Shania, you're here!"

Shania walked over slowly, smiling and greeting the Flores family members, "Yeah, nice to meet you, Mrs. Flores."

However, when her eyes fell on Jessie, her smiling face suddenly froze.

Unfortunately, both of them were wearing light blue dresses today. However, Jessie was actually wearing the latest design from the mysterious fashion designer Karen, which Shania had tried every means but failed to have. In comparison, her outfit was obviously somewhat inferior.

A hint of gloom flickered in Shania's eyes but quickly disappeared.

Jessie followed quietly with the group into the hall. Mario greeted her with a kindly smile and then pulled her aside.

"Happy birthday, Grandpa," said Jessie first.

"Thanks, Jessie." Mario looked very pleased and asked with a smile, "How have these days been? Has Elliot been good to you? If that little punk bullies you, remember to tell me. I will take care of him for you."

Jessie gave a slight smile and said, "Grandpa, don't worry. He didn't."

Seeing how Mario treated Jessie, Shania squeezed her fingers and felt very jealous. Nevertheless, she still maintained a bright smile and said, "Happy birthday, Mr. Flores. This is my gift to you. I hope you like it."

Shania's assistant presented a box, and Mario opened it with a smile. The gift was a landscape painting.

"Is this the masterpiece of Mr. Thornton?" Kelly spoke up.

As was well known, Mario had a great passion for collecting paintings.

The renowned painter Ariel Thornton had now put down his brush. His works were extremely rare and valuable. Even with unlimited wealth, it was very difficult to obtain his works.

"Shania, you are so thoughtful. I really like it!" Mario was all smiles. It was clear that he liked the gift.

"I'm glad you like it, Mr. Flores." With that, Shania turned to Jessie and casually asked, "Jessie, I wonder what gift you have prepared for Mr. Flores. I also want to have a look."

In order to please Mario, Shania really went all out to get this painting. She believed that Jessie's gift was definitely no match for hers.

Upon hearing that, Jessie looked up at Shania's slightly provocative eyes. She smirked and nonchalantly took out the gift she had prepared. It was also a painting.

Shania's eyes brightened with a smile. "What a coincidence! Jessie, you also prepared a painting!"

'But whose paintings can compare to that of Ariel Thornton? Jessie, you will ultimately be trampled under my feet. Just wait to be humiliated!' said Shania inwardly.

Mario's eyes immediately froze as he opened the painting.

The guests looked at it. The painting was exactly the same as the one Shania had given to Mario.

Between two identical paintings, one of them must be a fake.

Chapter 3 I Will Never Like You

"Jessie, Mario has been so good to you. How dare you fool him with a fake painting!" Kelly's expression changed immediately, and she accused Jessie directly.

'Shania Horne is the beloved daughter of the Horne family. There's no way she would send a fake painting. Instead, this Jessie Whitney is a low-class doctor...' said the guests inwardly.

The people around started to look at Jessie with disdain, like they were watching a joke.

Jessie didn't pay any mind to those stares, instead looking right at Elliot.

Elliot stared at the painting and casually said, "It's real."

His words had always been very persuasive. Shania's expression suddenly changed when she heard it. "No way, this painting was bought at an auction. How could it be fake?"

Hearing it, everyone burst into laughter, thinking, 'It is known that Ariel's paintings are not to be auctioned. This old man sells his paintings on a whim. He just sells to whoever he likes. Does Shania not even know this insider information?'

When Mario unfolded the two paintings together, it was obvious to see that Shania's painting was fake.

The guests around carefully observed them and noticed the numerous flaws in the counterfeit.

Mario looked a little unpleasant and handed the painting to Shania. "Shania, I'm afraid I can't accept your painting."

Shania bit her lip, her eyes slightly red. "Mr. Flores, I'm really sorry. I didn't mean it. I didn't know that this painting was fake."

Looking at the expressions of the people around her, Shania felt like her face was on fire. The painting, which sold for millions of dollars, was like a total rip-off.

At this moment, Mario was smiling and asking Jessie, "Jessie, how did you persuade Ariel to sell you this painting? Tell me all about it."

Jessie maintained a composed and modest attitude, speaking in a calm tone. "I was fortunate enough to meet Ariel while studying abroad, and he sold me this painting afterward."

"Great! Everyone seems to like our Jessie." Mario chuckled heartily and couldn't stop praising Jessie. Then he turned to Elliot and said, "Why don't you take Jessie to receive the guests?"

"Okay." Jessie nodded and followed Elliot into the banquet hall.

At this point, Shania recovered from the previous embarrassment and chatted lively with an international director, Cordell Bowman.

Cordell had just arrived at the banquet and hadn't seen Jessie yet. His eyes suddenly lit up when he saw Jessie.

He walked forward, not hiding his admiration at all in his eyes. "You must be Mrs. Flores? Hi, I'm Cordell Bowman."

"Hello, Mr. Bowman," Jessie responded gracefully.

"Mrs. Flores, may I know what you do for a living? I'm preparing a movie and still haven't found the right female lead. Mrs. Flores, are you interested in it?" said Cordell.

When she heard that, Shania's expression changed drastically. 'I'm talking to Mr. Bowman just for the leading actress of this movie. What makes Jessie Whitney think she can be the female lead?' she cursed inwardly.

Before Jessie could even speak, Elliot casually said beside her, "She's not interested."

There was a hint of pity in Cordell's expression as he replied awkwardly, "Sorry, Mr. Flores. I was a bit abrupt."

Jessie didn't say anything, but after following Elliot out, she finally spoke up. "What? Are you afraid I'll enter the entertainment industry and steal resources from Shania Horne? It seems like you really like her a lot."

Shania had only been in the film company for a few years but always had the best resources.

Without Elliot's contributions, it was unlikely that she would achieve it.

Upon hearing that, Elliot coldly chuckled. "It's none of your business about who I like, but you should know I will never like you."

Jessie's expression turned somewhat gloomy. She opened her mouth but didn't say anything.

Chapter 4 The Poison

Shania was staring at Jessie's back from behind, her nails digging deeply into the palm of her hand.

She and Jessie grew up together in the orphanage, but from the director to the classmates, they all only liked Jessie.

Finally, she became the missing young lady of the wealthy Horne family.

She thought she could finally tramp on Jessie, but to her dismay, the man she had her eye on became Jessie's husband.

Jealousy drowned out Shania's gaze. 'Elliot should have been mine from the start. I won't give up!' she thought.

When Jessie came out of the bathroom, she saw Mario talking to an elderly man of similar age, with Shania standing next to him.

"Jessie, come over here. This is Shania's grandpa and also my friend," said Mario.

Jessie immediately greeted, "Nice to meet you, Mr. Horne."

Looking at her face, Lewis Horne paused for a moment before coming back to his senses. "Ah, hello."

After exchanging a few pleasantries, Mario left with Jessie.

However, Lewis couldn't take his eyes off Jessie's back. "This girl looks so much like your mom when she was young!"

Shania panicked, but she soon regained her composure.

She chuckled and said, "Grandpa, you must be kidding. There are so many people in this world who look alike. It's just a coincidence."

The Horne family's daughter went missing when she was little, and when her parents found out, they rushed back and got into a car accident on their way. Both died.

Thinking about this, Lewis couldn't help but pat Shania's hand and said, "You've been through a lot over these years."

Shania didn't say anything but just hung her head low with a look of total despair.

The banquet went on. After cutting the cake, Jessie realized it had been a long time since she had last seen Elliot.

"Have you seen Elliot anywhere?" she grabbed a servant and asked.

That servant pointed upstairs and said, "I just saw Miss Horne helping Mr. Elliot upstairs."

Jessie's expression changed, and she hurriedly ran upstairs.

In the room came Shania's voice. "Elliot, are you feeling unwell? What's wrong? Do you need my help?"

Jessie felt fortunate to arrive in time. She kicked the door open neatly.

The whole room was a mess. Elliot was curled up on the floor, looking really uncomfortable, like he was trying hard to hold on.

At the same time, Shania was taking off her clothes. When she heard the noise at the door, she got a shock and hurriedly put her clothes back on. "Jessie, how did you get here?"

"What? You don't want me to come so you can do something?" asked Jessie.

Shania's expression changed abruptly. "Elliot brought me up here, Jessie. Elliot likes me. If it weren't for Mario, he wouldn't have married you!"

"Get out of here!" Elliot angrily shouted.

Jessie squinted her eyes and spoke with a touch of sharpness. "Shania Horne, if you don't leave now, I swear I'll call someone up here to see how you, a high-profile star from a wealthy family, are seducing my husband and trying to be a mistress!"

"How dare you!" A hint of resentment flashed Shania's face. 'I'm not a mistress!' she said inwardly. But among too many guests, it was really embarrassing to make a scene. She gritted her teeth and ultimately left unwillingly.

After she left, Jessie hurried over and asked, "What's the matter with you?"

She had just touched Elliot's forehead when Elliot immediately pushed her away.

"Get lost!" cursed Elliot.

His whole body was burning hot. He just felt uncomfortable all over, like millions of ants were eating him alive.

He swept off the stuff on the table again, making a loud bang.

Jessie was totally freaked out. She thought Elliot had been drugged by Shania, but now it didn't seem like it.

Suddenly, she remembered Mario's words. "Elliot got kidnapped when he was fifteen, and although he came back alive, the kidnappers poisoned him. For many years, I've been searching for a cure and taking him to various doctors, but no medicine can cure him. Every 15th of the month, his condition flares up. Jessie, the doctor said he might not live past 25, so I found a master to do some fortune telling, and he said you are the lucky star in his destiny. I only have one grandson, and I've watched you grow up. I know it's not fair to you, but I hope you can marry him and stay by his side."

Jessie could be sure that the poison in Elliot's body was acting up. 'But today is not the 15th. It's the alcohol! The alcohol has triggered the detox in advance,' she said inwardly.

Chapter 5 Contraceptives

"Ouch!" Elliot was holding Jessie's arm tightly, piercing pain shooting through him.

Jessie was startled and asked, "Elliot, calm down and tell me what the situation is right now. Where does it hurt the most?"

Elliot seemed not to have heard her at all. Before she could react, Jessie's lips were suddenly blocked.

Elliot's kisses came pouring down like a thunderstorm. He grabbed Jessie's head, their lips and teeth entwined and mixed with a hint of alcohol.

Jessie froze in place and pushed Elliot away after realizing what had happened.

She vaguely realized what poison it was and was about to stand up to leave.

The next second, Elliot tightly grabbed her wrist, and his fiery gaze seemed to be looking at his prey.

"Elliot, just calm down!" shouted Jessie.

It seemed as if Elliot had lost all rationality as he pinned Jessie against the wall and tore at her dress.

Looking at the man in front of her, who was clearly out of it, Jessie just couldn't bring herself to push him away again.

When she woke up the next morning, she felt so sore all over, like her limbs had all fallen apart.

She turned her head and saw that Elliot wasn't in bed. The sound of rushing water was coming from the bathroom.

Thinking about last night's craziness, she couldn't help but blush a little.

"Jessie, I really underestimated you! I can't believe you would scheme against me like this." Elliot had walked out of the bathroom somewhen. He was wearing a bathrobe, and the anger in his eyes looked like it could burn people alive.

Hearing that, Jessie smirked and said in a sarcastic tone, "Elliot, I scheme against you? Who kissed me, and who slept with me last night? You're the one who wouldn't let me leave! Clearly, I'm the one who got the short end of the stick."

"Didn't you already plan out what was going to happen next when you entered this room last night?" In Elliot's eyes, Jessie deliberately planned this.

He sneered and looked at Jessie in front of him. "Don't even think that these low-down methods will make me like you. Dream on!"

With that, he turned around and left.

Jessie was so angry that her heart ached. If she had known before, she would have left even if she had to jump from the building last night.

After breakfast at the old mansion, the two left directly. The whole way was quiet.

As they were about to reach the villa, Jessie finally spoke up. "Elliot, the poison on your body..."

Before she could finish, Elliot's eyes darkened. "Jessie, what do you know?"

"Before we got married, Mario already told me about it. I'm a doctor. If it's okay with you, I'd like to draw some blood to see if there's any way to help," answered Jessie.

As soon as she finished, Elliot's eyes revealed a hint of sarcasm. "My business is none of your concern. Whatever your purpose is for marrying into the Flores family, if this matter gets out, you can forget about staying in the Flores family."

Elliot had been searching for a cure through countless doctors. 'Jessie is a mere surgeon. She thinks she can cure me? That's just wishful thinking,' said Elliot inwardly.

The corner of Jessie's mouth twitched as she thought, 'Who does he think he is looking down on?'

She looked out the window and pursed her lips as if she wanted to say something, but in the end, she didn't speak and just picked up her phone to send a message.

When the car reached downtown, Elliot asked the driver to stop at a drugstore.

Jessie could vaguely guess what he was going to do, and sure enough, Elliot ordered, "Buy a box of contraceptives."

The driver paused shortly and quickly responded, "Yes, sir."

Jessie lowered her gaze, sniffed her slightly congested nose, and forced herself to calm down. 'It seems like he really has no feelings for me at all.'

The driver came back so fast. Jessie took the medicine and gulped it down.

The bitter medicine spread in her mouth as if reflecting her heart.

Chapter 6 Shania Got Kidnapped

They arrived at the hospital, and Elliot didn't leave immediately.

Jessie had a feeling that this hospital was under the Flores Group, and the doctor who received Elliot was also from this hospital.

They walked into the elevator, with the head of the surgical department, Felix Rollins, following behind.

Felix didn't even know Elliot. When seeing Jessie and Elliot acting so polite to each other, he just thought they were strangers.

Felix was also young and handsome. With a smile, he said, "Hey, Dr. Whitney, have you had breakfast? I brought an extra one for you just now."

"Thanks, Dr. Rollins. I already had breakfast," replied Jessie.

The two continued chatting about the patients and work stuff. When the elevator door opened, Jessie left with Felix without even saying goodbye to Elliot.

Seeing his wife chatting and laughing with someone else, Elliot couldn't help but turn a bit gloomy.

When he arrived at the fifth-floor office, Dr. Raul Smith, who had been treating Elliot for years, said jokingly, "Ugh... my assistant said he saw you walking in with Dr. Whitney from our hospital earlier. How did you two end up together?"

With that, Raul seemed to remember something and looked surprised. "Wait a minute! I heard this morning that your new wife is a doctor. Could it be Jessie Whitney?"

Elliot remained silent while Raul interpreted his silence as a yes. "Elliot, you are really something! You don't even know how popular Jessie is at the hospital. Doctors from all departments are always asking her out for dinners!"

"Shut up," Elliot said with a cold tone, feeling extremely annoyed at the thought of Jessie. "I need to talk to you about something important. My poison flared up last night."

Upon hearing this, Raul became serious. "No way! It wasn't the 15th last night. Oh, by the way, I was just thinking about calling you because I heard some news. Mr. Roland Ayers took on a disciple named Dr. Ghost a few years ago. Maybe he can cure your poison."

Roland used to be a world-renowned miracle doctor. Rumor had it he could bring people back from the dead. But this guy had passed away. It had only been recently known that he had a disciple.

Elliot squinted slightly and said in a low voice, "Figure out a way to contact this Dr. Ghost as soon as possible."

"We are already on it," answered Raul.

At this moment, the phone in Elliot's pocket started ringing. It was his assistant calling.

Elliot picked up the phone. It was unknown what his assistant said, but his expression suddenly changed. "I'll be right over."

With that, he hurriedly left the office.

Jessie just got some meds in the lobby and was about to head back to the office when she bumped into Elliot, who was rushing out in a hurry.

As they looked into each other's eyes, Elliot straight up grabbed her hand and said, "Come with me."

Jessie raised her eyebrows slightly and asked in a puzzled tone, "What's wrong?"

Elliot didn't say anything and just pulled her into the car.

The car was speeding along the road, going really fast. It looked like there was something urgent.

Jessie was even more confused. "Elliot, why did you bring me out here so urgently? What's going on?"

"Shania got kidnapped," replied Elliot.

The kidnapper was a manager from Elliot's company, Shawn Ferguson. After getting caught for tax evasion and all sorts of shady stuff a few days ago, he got fired and had to compensate the Flores Group a ton of money.

Shawn was in a desperate situation and was unable to reach Elliot. After seeing the scandal between Elliot and Shania, he kidnapped Shania directly.

'Looks like Elliot really likes that woman, huh?' wondered Jessie.

Chapter 7 Saving The Love Rival

The car drove to an abandoned factory on the outskirts. During the drive, Jessie had already found out that Shania had been injured in the kidnapping.

This was why Elliot took her out of the hospital.

"Elliot, where's my money? Are you trying to fool me? Believe me! I'll kill that woman inside right away!" roared Shawn.

Elliot's eyes looked gloomy, his voice cold. "My assistant is already preparing the money. It's impossible to gather 20 million dollars in cash in a short time. Shawn, I've brought a doctor. Let her check Shania's injuries first. Otherwise, you won't get a single penny if something happens to Shania."

Shawn took a quick look at Jessie, who was wearing a white coat, thinking, 'She's just a woman. No harm in taking a look.' "Fine," he replied.

Jessie thought it was pretty funny that Elliot actually brought her to save her love rival, wondering if Elliot was generous or simply didn't care.

After giving it some thought, Elliot spoke up. "There's a first aid kit in the car. You just need to take care of Shania's wounds, and then you can leave. Don't worry. I won't let anything happen to you."

Jessie pursed her lips, grabbed the first aid kit, and went over. After being searched by Shawn's men guarding the door, she was finally allowed to enter.

Shawn held a gun in his hand and said with a warning tone, "Doctor, I advise you not to play any tricks."

"Sir, I am just a weak woman. You can rest assured that I will leave as soon as she is treated." At the moment, Jessie could only compromise.

Shawn gave a cold snort and didn't say anything else.

Shania's wound was deep, but it was not fatal. After dealing with it, Jessie was ready to leave.

However, the cloth in Shania's mouth fell off at this moment, and she immediately yelled, "Sir, I'm just an artist under Elliot's company. She's Elliot's wife. Kidnapping her is more useful."

Jessie's expression changed drastically when she heard this. 'What a bastard are you! Shania!' she cursed inside.

"Bullshit! You think you can fool me?" Shawn was obviously doubtful.

"I didn't lie to you. She is indeed Elliot's wife. If you don't believe me, just check on your phone and you'll see. She was the one who attended Mario's birthday banquet with Elliot last night. Kidnapping me won't work. Elliot won't give you any money," Shania lied.

Shania was not dumb, knowing Shawn was a cunning guy. Once he got the money, he probably wouldn't let go of her. The longer she stayed here, the more dangerous she got.

Shawn was lost in thought, about to take out his phone to check. But Jessie spoke up directly. "No need to check. I'm Elliot's wife. Let her go. I'll be the hostage."

After checking, Shawn did see the pictures from last night's banquet. He readily let Shania go. After all, kidnapping Elliot's wife was truly more valuable and could ensure a better chance of success.

The rope was untied from Shania and tied onto Jessie. Shawn was holding a gun and never let his guard down.

After Shania left, Shawn grinned at Jessie and warned in a sinister tone, "Little girl, if you want to blame someone, blame Elliot Flores. He made me bankrupt, and now my wife is running off with someone else. He can forget about having a wife, too."

Jessie's lips twitched when she heard this. 'What's wrong with this guy? His wife ran away with another man, so what does it have to do with Elliot?' she wondered.

Jessie was not panicked. She smiled and said to Shawn, "Do you think Elliot will still pay up if I'm the hostage?"

"What do you mean?" Shawn's heart skipped a beat.

"It's nothing." Jessie shrugged, thinking, 'Elliot would probably be more than happy if I were dead, given his disdain toward me.'

Shawn felt something was off about Jessie, but he didn't think too much of it. 'After all, Jessie was just a woman. What kind of tricks can she pull off?'

Half an hour later, the Flores Group's men had 20 million dollars in cash ready.

The kidnappers demanded that Elliot enter the room alone with the money. While Elliot watched the bound Jessie, there was a gloomy and complex expression in his eyes.

The henchmen counted the cash, and Shawn laughed heartily. "Elliot, now that the hostage has been changed to your wife, I'm afraid that 20 million dollars is not enough. I want 100 million dollars!"

Chapter 8 Rumors

"Shawn!" Elliot's voice turned even angrier.

"Oh? Mr. Flores, you are not going to agree? Then I'll kill your wife right now!" threatened Shawn.

Seeing the gun pointed at Jessie's head, Elliot said in a restrained voice, "Okay."

Jessie raised the corner of her mouth, feeling a bit unexpected.

However, upon further consideration, she thought it was reasonable. 'I am indeed his nominal wife. Even if unwilling, he could not leave this responsibility behind.'

Elliot met eyes with Jessie, wondering, 'Is this woman scared dumb? The gun's right against her head, and she's still cracking a smile?'

A smile flashed in Jessie's eyes before her gaze turned freezing cold.

She gave Elliot a look, then suddenly stood up and kicked Shawn's hand.

"Ah!" With a cry of despair, the gun fell from Shawn's hand to the ground.

Elliot quickly reacted. With a swift turn, he kicked Shawn's henchman to the ground and promptly picked up the gun from the ground.

Seeing the money slip through his fingers, Shawn suddenly summoned his strength, grabbed a knife, and stabbed toward Jessie.

"Bam!" The gun went off, and Shawn fell to the ground with a pair of angry, resentful eyes wide open.

Elliot's men quickly rushed in and subdued Shawn.

"Aren't you afraid?" asked Elliot with a deep voice. Today's Jessie really made him feel different. 'Faced with the scene just now, other women would have been scared, but she...' As he thought about it, there was a hint of depth in Elliot's gaze.

Jessie hesitated for a moment before answering, "Doctors like us often see all kinds of dead bodies. There's nothing to be afraid of."

"Oh really? You've got some good fighting skills. You fight pretty well," praised Elliot.

Although Jessie didn't really go all out just now, Elliot could still tell from her moves that most people probably couldn't beat this woman.

'I learned it abroad for self-defense," replied Jessie.

With that, the two had already left the abandoned factory. Shania was still waiting in the car. "Elliot, are you okay? I just heard a gunshot coming from inside. It scared the heck out of me!"

"I'm fine. Let's get in the car and head back," said Elliot.

After getting in the car, Shania finally turned to look at Jessie. Although she was full of disgust in her heart, she still said hypocritically, "Jessie, thank you. If it weren't for you willing to exchange hostages for me, I couldn't have come out alive."

Upon hearing that, Jessie couldn't help but laugh. "Huh? I'm willing? Wasn't it you who told Shawn there was a better chance by kidnapping Elliot's wife?"

Shania's face suddenly changed, and she hurriedly explained, "No, Elliot, I didn't."

Elliot's eyes flickered slightly. He didn't respond to Shania directly but simply said, "I'll have someone take care of those rumors. Make sure to have more bodyguards with you when filming and traveling in the future."

It was actually a misunderstanding that day. He heard Shania had an accident on set, so he rushed over. Unfortunately, he was caught entering the hotel by reporters, so now there was a rumored relationship.

Jessie was leaning back in the car seat with a playful look in her eyes, thinking, 'Rumors? huh!"

After a while, the car stopped at the entrance of the hospital. Jessie didn't want to see the lovey-dovey couple, so she got out of the car first. When she arrived at the surgical room, she saw Felix running over in a hurry.

"Dr. Whitney, where did you go? I've been looking for you for ages, and I couldn't reach you on your phone," said Felix urgently.

"There was a kidnapping in the outskirts. I went over to rescue the hostage," replied Jessie.

Upon hearing this, Felix became worried immediately. "Huh? Kidnapping? Are you okay? Let me have a check."

Jessie smiled and said, "I'm okay."

As soon as she finished, Felix noticed the bruise on her wrist. "You consider this okay? You're too reckless. I'll get some medicine for you."

Behind her, Elliot followed along. Looking at Jessie's chatty and cheerful demeanor, he only felt annoyed instinctively.

Chapter 9 Dr. Ghost

Shania's wound was still being handled by Jessie. After her wound was bandaged, Shania said pitifully, "Elliot, I don't know when this leg injury will heal. I'm worried about scarring. Jessie is a doctor. Can I stay at your place and let her take care of me?"

Jessie was disgusted by Shania's tone and straight up refused, "No."

However, Elliot chimed in immediately, "Sure." With that, he glanced at Jessie and said, "You don't need to come to the hospital for the next few days. Stay at home and take care of Shania."

Finishing, he left the consulting room directly.

Jessie was feeling frustrated and cursed inwardly, 'You're simply inhuman, Elliot!'

"Jessie, sorry for the inconvenience," Shania said with a big smile, looking victorious.

Jessie had a poker face as she casually pulled out a syringe from the cabinet and shook the liquid inside.

"What's this?" Shania's heart skipped a beat, and she shrunk back in fear.

"You said you were most afraid of leaving scars on your legs, right? This is the potion that can make your scar last a lifetime. Plus, I have to take good care of you, right?" Jessie emphasized the words "take good care of" particularly strongly.

"Jessie, don't even think about it. We are at a hospital. If something happens to me, Elliot will definitely not let you off the hook," said Shania a little tremblingly.

Upon hearing that, Jessie laughed even brighter. "Now that I'm Mrs. Flores, why would I care about a doctor's position? As for you, Shania, I've put up with you for too long."

As Jessie got closer and closer to her, Shania screamed and wheeled out in her wheelchair.

Looking at her embarrassed appearance as she fled, Jessie chuckled and said inwardly, 'What an idiot!'

After finishing her work, Jessie left the hospital. Her phone started ringing at this time. It was a text message, reading, [Jessie, Raul contacted us. He offered a price of 100 million dollars to invite you to save someone.]

[Okay,] Jessie replied.

Raul was Elliot's personal doctor.

'Since he didn't trust me, this was the only way,' Jessie thought. It was late at night. She finally arrived at the hospital at the agreed time.

She was now wearing a gray leisure outfit, with a cap and face mask, looking like a handsome young boy.

On the way, the nurse from the same department didn't recognize that the person was Jessie.

She finally arrived at Raul's office, where Elliot and Raul were already waiting inside.

"Are you Dr. Ghost?" Raul eyed the person in front of him with a hint of curiosity. 'This person looks like he is in his early twenties, so young. Could he be an imposter?' he wondered.

Not only Raul but also Elliot had a look of scrutiny in his eyes.

Jessie was all prepared and pulled out the emerald pendant that Roland always wore when he was alive to prove her identity.

Even though Raul had never seen Roland, he recognized this thing and immediately exclaimed, "You are indeed Dr. Ghost! Forgive my rudeness."

Without further ado, Jessie got straight to the point. "How's the patient?"

Raul gave Elliot a look and waited for him to nod before speaking slowly. "His poison was administered five years ago. It flares up on the 15th of every month. But it flared up a few days early this month, and... It seems that women can alleviate the pain of the poison. I've researched for years and still can't figure out what this poison is. Dr. Ghost, if you can cure this poison, I'll give you not just 100 million dollars but as much money as you want."

Jessie nodded and lowered her voice, saying, "Sure, I want first to draw a little bit of Mr. Flores's blood to do some research."

Raul and Elliot didn't refuse. When Jessie drew his blood, she was very close to Elliot.

Amid the haze, Elliot could only faintly smell a familiar scent lingering around his nose.
